Creating a new connection

How to create a new connection in DataStax Studio.

Prerequisites

  • DataStax Enterprise 5.1 installed, configured, and running.
  • DataStax Enterprise Studio installed and running.
  • If using DSE Graph, it must be configured, and running.

A notebook persists its data to a DSE cluster. Unlike Studio 1.0, you do not need create a connection before creating a notebook.

For DSE Graph, the connection will identify a particular graph. For CQL, the connection identifies a database instance. For notebooks using CQL, the keyspace and table can be changed within the notebook. For notebooks using DSE Graph, the connection must be changed to use a different graph.

To create a new connection:

Procedure

  1. Browse to the URL for the Studio installation.
  2. In the menu, select the Browse Connections menu item.

    The Browse Connections page displays.

  3. Create the new connection:
    1. Select Add connection (the plus icon in the top center of the page).
      The Create Connection dialog appears.
    2. Enter the following information:

This example connects to a single-node DSE cluster on the local host via the default port.

      Name
      My First Connection
      Host/IP
      127.0.0.1
      Port
      9042
    3. Select Save.
You now have a connection for a DataStax Enterprise cluster. Each notebook has only one connection. Each connection can have multiple notebooks.
