Firewall idle connection timeout causing nodes to lose communication during low traffic times on Windows 

Steps to configure the default idle connection timeout on Windows.

During low traffic intervals, a firewall configured with an idle connection timeout can close connections to local nodes and nodes in other data centers. The default idle connection timeout is usually 120 minutes.


Add the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\KeepAliveTime key to the Registry with the following values:
  • Type: REG_SZ
  • Data: 300000 milliseconds (5 minutes)
