Monitor cluster metrics with DSE Metrics Collector

DSE Metrics Collector aggregates DataStax Enterprise (DSE) metrics and integrates with existing monitoring solutions to help you resolve and remediate problems.

DSE Metrics Collector is built on collectd, a well-supported, open source metric collection agent. With more than 90 plugins, you can tailor the metric collection agent to collect metrics most important to your organization.

  1. Enable DSE Metrics Collector to begin collecting metrics.

  2. Set up the monitoring server to export your metrics:

    • Export metrics using preconfigured Docker images

    • Export metrics to an existing monitoring server

  3. Configure DSE Metrics Collector to tune the interval collection time, refresh period, and other options based on your needs.

  4. Filter metrics to specify which metrics to include or exclude from results.

Get a list of node and cluster statistics and metrics with DataStax nodetool or Java Console (JConsole).

Configure DSE Metrics Collector with dsetool commands

Use these dsetool commands to enable and configure DSE Metrics Collector.

Steps to enable and disable DSE Metrics Collector.

Configuring DSE Metrics Collector

DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Metrics Collector configuration includes tuning time intervals for when metrics are collected and configuration changes are refreshed, setting the reporting period, and defining directory sizes and locations to store metrics and metrics logs.

Exporting metrics

After configuring DSE Metrics Collector, export metrics and visualize them in a dashboard.
