Supported platforms

Be sure to check the support status for your platform. DataStax no longer supports an OS or JVM after standard support has ended.

For reference, see Legal information and software.

The following platforms and versions are supported and tested by DataStax to work with DataStax products. Other platforms or versions may work, but have not been tested.

Requirement for Uniform Licensing

All nodes in each DataStax Licensed cluster must be uniformly licensed to use the same subscription. For example, if a cluster contains 5 nodes, all 5 nodes must be DataStax Enterprise (DSE). Mixing different subscriptions within a cluster is not permitted. The DataStax Advanced Workloads Pack may be added to any DSE cluster in an incremental fashion. For example, a 10-node DSE cluster may be extended to include 3 nodes of the Advanced Workloads Pack. "Cluster" means a collection of nodes running the software which communicate with one another using gossip. See Enterprise Terms.

JREs and JDKs supported by DataStax products

DataStax recommends the latest build of a TCK Certified OpenJDK version 8 or supported Oracle JRE or JDK version 8.

Starting with DSE 5.1.11 and 6.0.3, DataStax does more extensive testing on OpenJDK 8. This change is due to the end of public updates for Oracle JRE/JDK 8. See Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap.

DSE 6.8 platform-related notes

DSE 6.8 software may require some additional packages to be installed depending on the platform.

libaio

DSE 6.8 uses the libaio library to improve performance. A WARN message is logged to the system.log if the library is missing. See installation guide.

PySpark Python

Apache Spark 2.4 in DSE 6.8 Analytics requires Python2 or Python3 before 3.8 for pyspark to work correctly. Some platforms may require an additional Python interpreter with a supported version to be installed, followed by configuring the Python installation to be used.

R (DSE Analytics)

Apache Spark 2.4 in DSE 6.8 Analytics requires R version 3.x and does not work with 4.x.

OpenSSL3

Some modern platforms use OpenSSL3. This may require DSE software configuration changes in terms of certificates being used (SSL encryption, authentication), when switching from platforms using older OpenSSL versions.

DSE 5.1 platform-related notes

DSE 5.1 software may require some additional packages to be installed depending on the platform.

PySpark Python (DSE Analytics)

Apache Spark 2.0 in DSE 5.1 Analytics requires Python2 for PySpark to work correctly. Some platforms may require installing additional an Python version, followed by configuring which Python binary to use.

OpenSSL3

Some recent platforms use OpenSSL3. This may require DSE software configuration changes in terms of certificates being used (SSL encryption, authentication) when switching from platforms using older openssl versions.
