Default file locations for tarball and Installer-No Services installations

The default location of the files depends on how you install DataStax Enterprise (DSE).

The following locations are for tarball installations and Installer-No Services installations.

The following paths use a placeholder for the parent installation directory. Replace INSTALL_DIRECTORY with the path to the directory where you extracted the DSE tarball.

Default directories for primary configuration files

Path Description

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/conf/cassandra.yaml

cassandra.yaml is the primary configuration file for the DSE database.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/dse/conf/dse.yaml

dse.yaml is the primary configuration file for the DSE installation, components, and processes outside of the database functionality.

Default database directories

Path Description

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/bin

Commands and utilities, such as nodetool, cqlsh, and sstableloader.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/tools/bin/token-generator

Token generator tool for manually calculating tokens.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/conf

Property files and cqlshrc samples including:

  • cassandra.yaml

  • cassandra-env.sh

  • cassandra-rackdc.properties

  • cassandra-topology.properties

  • cassandra-topology.yaml

  • commitlog_archiving.properties

  • cqlshrc.sample

  • logback.xml

/var/lib/cassandra or INSTALL_DIRECTORY

Database data directories:

  • /commitlog

  • /data

  • /hints

  • /saved_caches

/var/log/cassandra

Log files and subdirectories, including:

  • /audit

  • debug.log

  • gremlin.log

  • solrvalidation.log

  • system.log

  • dropped_audit_events.log

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/conf/logback.xml

Logback configuration file.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/bin/dse-env.sh

DSE environment configuration file to set custom log locations.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/resources/cassandra/conf/jvm.options

JVM options.

INSTALL_DIRECTORY/bin/cassandra.in.sh or dse.in.sh

Not for direct modification. Instead, set parameters in other files, such as cassandra-env.sh, dse-env.sh, or the JVM options file.
