Default file locations for package installations

The default location of the files depends on how you install DataStax Enterprise (DSE).

The following locations are for package installations.

Default directories for primary configuration files

Path Description

/etc/dse/cassandra/cassandra.yaml

cassandra.yaml is the primary configuration file for the DSE database.

/etc/dse/dse.yaml

dse.yaml is the primary configuration file for the DSE installation, components, and processes outside of the database functionality.

Default database directories

Path Description

/var/lib/cassandra

Database data directories:

  • /commitlog

  • /data

  • /hints

  • /saved_caches

/var/log/cassandra

Log files and subdirectories, including:

  • /audit

  • debug.log

  • gremlin.log

  • solrvalidation.log

  • system.log

  • dropped_audit_events.log

/var/run/cassandra

Database process ID (pid) directory.

/usr/share/dse/cassandra

Environment settings.

/usr/share/dse/cassandra/tools

Command line tools and YAML examples.

/etc/dse/cassandra

Property files and cqlshrc samples, including:

  • cassandra.yaml

  • cassandra-env.sh

  • cassandra-rackdc.properties

  • cassandra-topology.properties

  • cassandra-topology.yaml

  • commitlog_archiving.properties

  • cqlshrc.sample

  • logback.xml

/etc/dse/cassandra/logback.xml

Logback configuration file.

/etc/init.d

Set node type and other server configuration.

/etc/dse/dse-env.sh

DSE environment configuration file to set custom log locations.

/etc/dse/cassandra/jvm-server.options, jvm8-server.options, or jvm11-server.options

JVM options.

/usr/share/cassandra/cassandra.in.sh or dse.in.sh

Not for direct modification. Instead, set parameters in other files, such as cassandra-env.sh, dse-env.sh, or the JVM options file.

/usr/share/dse

Contains licenses and other documents. See also Third-party software in DSE.
