Supported platforms for DSE

The following platforms and versions are tested and certified by DataStax to work with DataStax products.

Be sure to check the support status for your platform itself in addition to DataStax compatibility. DataStax doesn’t support an OS or JVM after standard support has ended. For more information, see DataStax supported software.

Requirement for Uniform Licensing

All nodes in each DataStax Licensed cluster must be uniformly licensed to use the same subscription. For example, if a cluster contains 5 nodes, all 5 nodes must be DataStax Enterprise (DSE). Mixing different subscriptions within a cluster is not permitted. The DSE Advanced Workloads Pack may be added to any DSE cluster in an incremental fashion. For example, a 10-node DSE cluster may be extended to include 3 nodes of the Advanced Workloads Pack. "Cluster" means a collection of nodes running the software which communicate with one another using gossip. See Enterprise Terms.

Additional package requirements for DSE

Certain versions of DSE 6.9, 6.8, and 5.1 may require additional packages to be installed, depending on the platform.

DSE 6.9 platform support notes

libaio

DSE 6.9 uses the libaio library to improve performance. This library has been renamed to libaio1t64 in newer Debian/Ubuntu-based platforms. A WARN message is logged to the system.log if the library is missing. See the DSE 6.9 installation guide.

DSE 6.8 platform support notes

libaio

DSE 6.8 uses the libaio library to improve performance. This library has been renamed to libaio1t64 in newer Debian/Ubuntu-based platforms. A WARN message is logged to the system.log if the library is missing. See the DSE 6.8 installation guide.

PySpark Python (DSE Analytics)

Apache Spark 2.4 in DSE 6.8 Analytics requires Python2 or Python3 before 3.8 for pyspark to work correctly. Some platforms may require an additional Python interpreter with a supported version to be installed, followed by configuring the Python installation to be used.

R (DSE Analytics)

Apache Spark 2.4 in DSE 6.8 Analytics requires R version 3.x and does not work with 4.x.

OpenSSL3

Some modern platforms use OpenSSL3. This may require DSE software configuration changes in terms of certificates being used (SSL encryption, authentication), when switching from platforms using older OpenSSL versions.

DSE 5.1 platform support notes

PySpark Python (DSE Analytics)

Apache Spark 2.0 in DSE 5.1 Analytics requires Python2 for PySpark to work correctly. Some platforms may require installing additional an Python version, followed by configuring which Python binary to use.

OpenSSL3

Some recent platforms use OpenSSL3. This may require DSE software configuration changes in terms of certificates being used (SSL encryption, authentication) when switching from platforms using older openssl versions.

Supported platforms for DSE OpsCenter

Starting with DSE OpsCenter 6.1.3, LCM automatically performs an OS supported platform check for the version of DSE being installed.

DSE OpsCenter 6.8 (x86_64) supports full package and tarball installations on the following platforms:

  • Amazon Linux 2023 AMI

  • Amazon Linux 2 AMI

  • macOS X

  • Oracle Linux 9

  • Oracle Linux 8

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8

  • Rocky Linux 9

  • Rocky Linux 8

  • Ubuntu LTS 24.04

  • Ubuntu LTS 22.04

  • Ubuntu LTS 20.04

JREs and JDKs supported by DSE

DataStax recommends the latest build of a TCK Certified OpenJDK version 8 or supported Oracle JRE or JDK version 8. If you are running DSE on Amazon Linux 2023, you can use OpenJDK or Amazon Corretto JDK.

For the latest JDK installation guides, see the Oracle or OpenJDK documentation. For older DataStax-provided JDK installation guides, see Installing the JDK or Python 2.7.
