About upgrading

This DataStax Upgrade Guide provides detailed instructions on upgrading DataStax Enterprise (DSE) and OpsCenter, as well as preparing backups and reverting to earlier versions.

  • Upgrade DSE

Read and understand these instructions before upgrading. Carefully review the planning and upgrade instructions to reduce the chance of errors and data loss.

  • Upgrade OpsCenter

  • Zero-downtime migrations (ZDM)

You can use ZDM for migrations between DSE and Apache Cassandra® clusters. You can also use ZDM for major DSE version upgrades where an in-place upgrade is risky or not supported.

  • Upgrade Apache Cassandra®

  • Driver compatibility

After a cluster upgrade, you might need to upgrade to a newer driver version, modify deprecated or removed syntax in your application code, and recompile your client application code.
