Delete your account

You can delete your Astra DB account.

Before deleting your account, you might need to delete organization assets or transfer ownership of any non-default organizations that you own:

Your default organization

Your default organization is your personal organization that is created with your Astra DB account. You can’t delete your default, personal organization, and you can’t transfer ownership of your default organization. Deleting your account also deletes your default organization.

You must delete all assets, such as databases and streaming tenants, from your default organization before you can delete your account, regardless of your role in any other organization.

Non-default organizations

If you belong to any non-default organizations, and you are not an Organization Administrator in any of those organizations, then you can delete your account without deleting any assets in those organizations or the organizations themselves.

If you are the only Organization Administrator in a non-default organization, you can do either of the following:

  • Transfer organization ownership to another user by granting them the Organization Administrator role. Do this if you want to delete your account without deleting the organization.

  • Delete all organization assets, such as databases and streaming tenants, and then delete the organization. Do this if you want to delete your account and the organization.

To delete your Astra DB account, do the following:

  1. In the Astra Portal, click your profile picture, and then select Account Settings.

  2. Click Delete My Account.

  3. Enter your email address, select a reason for deleting your account, and acknowledge the risk of deleting your account.

  4. Click Request Account Deletion.

Astra DB Classic sends a chat message to notify you that DataStax received your account deletion request. It can take several business days to process your request. During this time, you can continue to access your account and organizations in the Astra Portal. DataStax sends an email to notify you when your account is deleted.

If you had any external assets associated with your databases, such as private endpoints, custom DNS, or customer keys, make sure that you clean up those assets as well. Deleting your Astra DB account does not delete external assets, such as those managed in your cloud provider console.
