Getting Started

Ready to automate the process of deploying and managing open-source Apache Cassandra® or DataStax Enterprise (DSE) in a Kubernetes (K8s) cluster?

The following topics describe getting up and running with DataStax Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra (Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra).

Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra requires a (K8s) cluster in order to run. On this cluster, apply Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra and related definitions, and deploy a Cassandra database. Connect to the deployed Cassandra database from within or outside of the K8s cluster.

  1. Create a (K8s) cluster.

If you have not already, Create a Kubernetes cluster.

  2. Create and apply Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra and Apache Cassandra resources on the existing K8s cluster.

After establishing a Kubernetes cluster, proceed to Get started with Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra and apply pre-configured Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra manifests and related definitions to the Kubernetes environment.

  3. Connect to Cassandra from a Kubernetes cluster.

Use cqlsh to connect to the deployed Apache Cassandra database from within the K8s cluster. For more information, see Connect to Cassandra with cqlsh within Kubernetes cluster.

(Alternately): connect to Cassandra resources and services running in K8s from outside the cluster. Connect to Cassandra from outside the Kubernetes cluster describes various connection methods.

With Cassandra resources in place, you can then use Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra to manage open-source Apache Cassandra or DataStax Enterprise (DSE) resources in your Kubernetes cluster. See Use Cassandra or DSE in Kubernetes with Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra.
