Automatic installation of DataStax agents

When you install DataStax Enterprise 4.5 or later, the DataStax agent is automatically installed on the nodes of a cluster.

After installing, configuring, and running a DataStax Enterprise cluster and OpsCenter, you connect to OpsCenter in a web browser and are automatically asked whether to provision a new cluster or connect to an existing cluster. In either case, OpsCenter connects to nodes with agents already deployed (DataStax Enterprise 4.5 and later), or deploys agents to nodes and then connects.

Prerequisites

  • The OpsCenter diagnostic tarball feature requires a GNU tar version 1.16 or above. CentOS/RHEL version 5.x does not include the required tar version. For those running on CentOS or RHEL version 5, either upgrade OpsCenter to CentOS or RHEL version 6 or above, or download and compile an acceptable version of tar.

Procedure

  1. Install DataStax Enterprise 4.5 or greater.
  2. Install OpsCenter.
  3. Start your cluster and the OpsCenter daemon.
  4. Open the URL (http://localhost:8888/) for OpsCenter in a supported web browser.

The New Cluster dialog prompts you to select a cluster option.

  5. Click Manage Existing Cluster.
    The Add Cluster dialog appears.

  6. Add the hostnames or IP addresses of the nodes in the cluster. For best results, use private IP addresses.
  7. Click Save Cluster.
