nodetool clearsnapshot

Removes one or more snapshots from one or more keyspaces. Run this command to free up disk space that the snapshots occupy. Snapshots do not delete automatically. For more, see Deleting snapshot files.

This command deletes the backup of your node.

A single snapshot requires little disk space. However, snapshots can cause your disk usage to grow more quickly over time because a snapshot prevents old, obsolete data files from being deleted. You can leave completed snapshot files in place or move them to another location if needed.

Synopsis

nodetool [<connection_options>] clearsnapshot
[--all | -t <snapshotname>] [--] [<keyspace_name>]

Definition

The short- and long-form options are comma-separated.

Connection options

-h, --host hostname

The hostname or IP address of a remote node or nodes. When omitted, the default is the local machine.

-p, --port jmx_port

The JMX port number.

-pw, --password jmxpassword

The JMX password for authenticating with secure JMX. If a password is not provided, you are prompted to enter one.

-pwf, --password-file jmx_password_filepath

The filepath to the file that stores JMX authentication credentials.

-u, --username jmx_username

The username for authenticating with secure JMX.

Command arguments

--

Separates an option from an argument that could be mistaken for an option.

--all

Removes all snapshots.

keyspace_name

Keyspace name. By default, all keyspaces.

-t snapshotname, --tag snapshotname

The snapshot filepath. To remove all snapshots, omit the snapshot filepath.

Examples

Delete all snapshots for a node

nodetool clearsnapshot --all

Results:

Requested clearing snapshot(s) for [cycling] with [all snapshots]

Delete tagged snapshot

nodetool clearsnapshot -t cycling_2017-3-9

Results:

Requested clearing snapshot(s) for [all keyspaces] with snapshot name [cycling_2017-3-9]
