nodetool sethintedhandoffthrottlekb

Sets hinted handoff throttle in KB/sec per delivery thread.

When a node detects that a node for which it is holding hints has recovered, hints are sent to that node. This command sets the maximum sleep interval per delivery thread after delivering each hint. The interval shrinks proportionally to the number of nodes in the cluster. For example, if there are two nodes in the cluster, each delivery thread uses the maximum interval; if there are three nodes, each node throttles to half of the maximum interval, because the two nodes are expected to deliver hints simultaneously.

nodetool sethintedhandoffthrottlekb does not affect replay that is already in progress. A "replay session" encompasses all files there when a replay starts. Updating nodetool sethintedhandoffthrottlekb while hint replays are already ongoing does not have any effect. Users must stop/start HCD for nodetool sethintedhandoffthrottlekb to be implemented.

Synopsis

nodetool [<connection_options>] sethintedhandoffthrottlekb
[--] <value_in_KB/sec>

Definition

The short- and long-form options are comma-separated.

Connection options

-h, --host hostname

The hostname or IP address of a remote node or nodes. When omitted, the default is the local machine.

-p, --port jmx_port

The JMX port number.

-pw, --password jmxpassword

The JMX password for authenticating with secure JMX. If a password is not provided, you are prompted to enter one.

-pwf, --password-file jmx_password_filepath

The filepath to the file that stores JMX authentication credentials.

-u, --username jmx_username

The username for authenticating with secure JMX.

Command arguments

--

Separates an option from an argument that could be mistaken for an option.

value_in_kb_per_sec
  • value: The number of kilobytes (KB) per second set to trigger the database to generate hints when a node is unresponsive

  • 0: Disables throttling
