Restore an Astra DB Serverless database with DataStax Support
DataStax Support can assist with data recovery for your Astra DB Serverless databases.
Request data recovery
To initiate data recovery, contact DataStax Support. You must be able to verify that you are the Organization Administrator or Database Administrator for the database you are attempting to restore.
Restore options
You can restore lost or corrupted data for an existing database that has at least one backup. If a database has multiple hourly backups available, you can choose which backup to restore. For more information about available backups, see Astra DB Serverless backup retention policy.
If the database has an available backup, you can choose how to restore the data:
-
Overwrite the same database: Restore data to the same database by replacing the current data with data from the backup. This overwrites any changes that occurred after the backup was recorded, including additions, removals, and edits.
Restore time
Data recovery inherently requires downtime for the restoration process.
Restoration time depends on factors like database size. Communicate with DataStax Support to understand the scope and potential duration of your restoration.
For multi-region databases, data is restored to the primary region first, and then replicated to the secondary regions.
Databases are in Maintenance status for the duration of the restoration. While Maintenance status doesn’t explicitly prevent reads and writes, the restoration process requires rewriting data to your database, including keyspaces and tables. As a result, reads and writes can be unreliable or fail during restoration.
