Advanced workload components
DataStax Enterprise (DSE) supports advanced functionality in addition to the core Apache Cassandra database capabilities:
- DSE Analytics
-
Use DSE Analytics to analyze huge databases. DSE Analytics includes a built-in integration with Apache Spark™ and the DSEFS distributed file system for storing large amounts of data for analytic processing.
- DSE Search
-
DSE Search integrates Apache Solr™ and Apache Lucene™ indexing and analyzers to enable full-text search capabilities across tables and nodes in a distributed database. You can use DSE Search indexes for simple keyword search as well as complex queries on multiple fields with faceted search results, such as full-text search, range search, and exact search. DSE Search also supports tokenized text search for use with analyzers.
- DataStax Graph
-
DataStax Graph (DSG) is a real-time distributed graph database, tightly integrated in DataStax’s distribution of Apache Cassandra®. It is optimized for fast data storage and traversals, zero downtime, and analysis of complex, disparate, and related datasets. DataStax Graph is the graph model for Apache Cassandra that can scale to massive datasets while running transactional and analytical workloads. DataStax Graph incorporates all of the enterprise-class functionality found in DSE.
Storing, indexing, and retrieving graph data uses the following components for online transactional processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP) workloads:
-
DSE database: Storage backend
-
DSE Search: Index backend
-
TinkerPop 3 GraphComputer and Apache Spark™: Process graph data for analytical workloads. Client requests are passed to these components from the DSE server (nodes) or the Apache TinkerPop™ 3 Gremlin server.
-
Apache Cassandra Spark Connector: Interface between TinkerPop 3 GraphComputer and Apache Spark™ to the DSE storage backend, index backend, and graph data.
-
Gremlin console and DataStax Studio: User interface for graph queries through the Apache TinkerPop™ 3 Gremlin server.
-
Apache Cassandra drivers and the CQL shell: Application interface for graph queries through the DSE server.
DataStax Graph is the successor to DSE Graph (DSE 6.7 and earlier). DSE Graph is supported in DataStax Graph for backward compatibility. The names DataStax Graph and DSE Graph are used interchangeably throughout the documentation. When specifically referring to the earlier DSE Graph, the term Classic Graph is used.

- DSE Advanced Replication
-
Advanced Replication supports configurable distributed data replication from source clusters to destination clusters. It is designed to tolerate sporadic connectivity that can occur in constrained environments, such as retail, oil-and-gas remote sites, and cruise ships.
- DSE Management Services
-
DSE and DSE OpsCenter provide services that are designed to automatically handle administration and maintenance tasks to assist with cluster management and monitoring.
